RESOLUTION NUMBER /73b
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING THE STAND OF
DR. S. I. HAYAKAWA IN HIS ADMINISTRATION OF
SAN FRANCISCO STATE COLLEGE AND URGING ALL THOSE
IN ACADEMIa: AUTHORITY TO GIVE FULL SUPPORT TO THE
ACTING PRESIDENT OF SAN FRANCISCO STATE COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Seal Beach has viewed with
alarm the increasing public disorder and civil disobedience that has
occured at some of the state institutions of higher learning: and
WHEREAS, Such actions have concentrated upon the campus of
San Francisco State College causing violence and riot resulting in
injury to persons and property, and the closing of that campus to
the majority of students seeking higher education:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach, a charter city, that it commends the actions taken by
Dr. S. I. Hayakawa, Acting President, San Francisco State College,
in his efforts to restore order and to provide savety for the majority
of students desiring an education.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to
Dr. Hayakawa, Governor Ronald Reagan, State Senator John G. Schmitz,
State Senator James Whetmore, Assemblyman Robert Burke, Superintendent
Max Rafferty, Chancellor Dumke, and the State Board of Trustees of
the California State COlleges.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach, California, at a meeting thereof held on the l6th day of
December, 1968, by the ]'>:llowing vote:
