STATING THE POSITION OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH WITH RESPEC'l m DOCKET NO. 5395. E'I AL.. SOUTHERN ROCKY MOUNTAIN LOCAL SERVICE CASE. BEFORE THE CIVD.. AERONAUTICS BOABD . 6 7 8 9 10 WHEREAS. the City of Seal Beach is a municipal corpora- 11 tion. situated in the southwestern corner of Orange County. 12 California. at the Pacific Ocean; and 13 WJM1U'AS. the population of Seal Beach bas increased 14 from 3.553 in 1950 to 6.994 in December. 1960; and 15 WHEREAS. the business and economic outlook for the future 16 for the Seal Beach area is most favorable. with the Seal Beach 17 plant of Dow Chemical. the standby steam plant of the Los Angeles 18 Department of Water and Power. and California Artists. Christmas 19 card manufacturers. being located in the city; and 20 WHEREAS. the United States Naval and Junmnnition and Net 21 Depot with approximately 600 civilian employees and 172 active duty 22 Naval personnel. is located at Seal Beach. California; and 23 WHEBEAS. the scheduled air transportation at the Long Beach 24 Municipal Airport is not adequate to serve the needs of the business- 25 men and residents of the City of Seal Beach and of the surrounding 26 area; and 27 WHEREAS. the Long Beach !>fl1nicipal Airport. located eight 28 miles from the City of Seal Beach. with an estimated driving time 29 of ten minutes. is the most convenient major airport for the use 30 of residents and businessmen of the City of Seal Beach and 31 surrounding area; 32 NOW. THEREFORE. the City Council of the City of Seal 1 I 1 1 - . ... . Resolution Numb~~ 1 Beach resolves as follows: 2 3 !ECTION 1: That the growth and development of the City of Seal Beach and the surrounding area are creating an expanding 4 market for scheduled air transportation. That the needs and con- 5 venience of the traveling public require that this area be furnished 6 new and improved scheduled airline service to satisfy air transpor- 7 tation requirements. That the Long Beach Municipal Airport should 8 be designated as a terminal or intermediate point on all domestic 9 airline routes presently certificated to serve Southern California 10 and on all domestic airline routes which may be certificated to 11 serve Southern California in the decision resulting from the pro- 12 ceedings in the Southern Rocky Mountain Local Service Case, Docket 13 No. 5395, et al., to the extent this is legally possible within 14 15 the scope of that proceeding. SEOTION 2: The adoption by the City Council of this 16 resolution is not to be construed as favoring or endorsing the 17 application of any specific airline in this proceeding. The 18 interest of the City of Seal ~each is to assist the Civil 19 Aeronautics Board in its determination for the need for new and 20 improved scheduled airline service between the Long Beach Municipal 21 Airport and cities within the scope of this proceeding. 22 SECTION 3: The City Clerk is hereby authorized and 23 directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the City 24 Attorney of the City of Long Beach, California.' 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the of Seal Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 7 tl6 City day of $/I-Kd# , 1961. ?~~~ ATTEST: ,'.....~.:> . ~.~"~4!1 f.....
