RESOLUTION NO. Ilf""
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH TO
AMEND SECTION 330 (}I! THE STATE PENAL CODE.
WHEREAS. the City Council is unanimously opposed to legalized
draw p'ok~r !n the City of Seal Beach. and
WHEREAS. responsible. conscientious citizens of Duarte on
October 30. 1961 defeated a measure on the ballot in a special election
to determine if poker clubs should be made legal, and
WHEREAS. sworn testimony at a recent trial in Irwindale indi-
cated that a move to surreptitiously bring gambling to that city
resulted in the present unstable state of their City Government, and
WHEREAS, Cudahy is presently the victim of another attempt to
legalize poker. and
WHEREAS. legalized poker clubs create an unsound false economy
in a City. and
WHEREAS. all responsible law enforcement agencies are opposed
to poker clubs. and
WHEREAS. legalized poker attracts an undesirable element.
creates a disregard for law. encourages Juvenile delinquency and
generally leads to a moral breakdown of the community.
NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of
the City of Seal Beach respectfully request that the Governor call
a special session of the Legislature to consider legislation or a
referendum to correct those loopholes in Section 330 of State Penal
Code which permits the existence of local option draw poker and
10 ball poker.
