CALIFORNIA~ A~~NDING O'I~ANCE NO. 276.
BY M~ENDINu SUBSECTION h THEREOF;
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8 ~ BY AMENDING
SUBSECTION (g) OF SECTION ~ THEREOF"
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TH~REWITHi AND
PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION THEREO~'.
The City Council of the City of Seal Beach.
California. does ordain as follows:
Section 1: That Ordinance No. 276 of the
City of Seal Beach, California, entitled "AN
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA,
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 269. BY AMENDING SECTION 8
THEREOF". and adopted by the City Council of the
Ci ty of Seal Beach. on the 17 fJ. day of June. 1943,
be amended by amending Subsection (h) thereof to
read as follows:
(h) POLICE DEPARTUENT.
The Department of police of said City shall
be under the direction and control of a Chief of
Police, who shall be appointed by the City Council
and hold such office at the pleasure of such
Council. It shall be the duty of the Chief of
Police to prosecute before the City Court all
breaches or violations of or the non-compliance
26 with any ordinance of said City which shall come to
27 his knowledge. The Chief of police in addition to
28 such duties shallcollect all City licenses except
29 contractor's licenses, and shall deposit said
30 amounts in the Office of the City Treasurer monthly.
31 and shall perform all duties required by law and
32 the statutes of the State of california. The Chief
of police shall receive as compensation the sum of

2 The Chief of Police shall appoint, subject to the
3 approval ana confirmation of the City Council, one
4 or more police Offi cers, including a Homan Police
5 Officer, to be known as the police Matron. The Chief
6 of Poli ce may, \"'1 th concurrence of the Mayor, v;hen
7 the same is deemed necessary for the preservation of
8 the public order, appoint additional police officers
9 and s~all p~rform sucL oth,;r sarvices as the General
10 LaVIs of the State, ordinances, Resolutions and Motion
11 of the City COlcncil may require. The compensation or
12 police Officers sliall be ON~ HUN::JRED S::;VSfJTY (Cl70.00)
13 DOLLARS each per month, payable monthly, for the firs
14 six (6) months of service, for the next succeeding
15 six (6) r:lonths of eervi ce the sum of O]'\~E HUNDH':D S::VE~
16 TY-FIVE (jl75.00) DOLLhRS each psr month, payable
17 monthly, and at the expiration of one year of service
18 the compensation of police Officers shall be the sum

20 payable monthly. Tlie Poli ce sergeant shall receive
21 the sum of ON~ HUNDR3D ~INETY-FIVE (~195.00) DOLLAHS
22 per month, payable monthly, from date of appointment.
23 The compensE. tion of the Poll ce Matron shall be trie su
24 of FIFTY (~50.00) DULLARS per month, payable monthly,
for the first year of service, and the sum of SIXTY
(C60.00) DOLLj~S per month, payable monthly, at the
expiration of one year of employment. The provisions
provided for herein as to length of service and rate
of compens~tion of police Officers !:lay be changed at
the discretion of t~e City Council.
The compensuti~lll of' the aforesaid Folice Offi-
cers s~all be retroactive end have full force and
efrect from and after the 1st day of January, 1944.

the position of Maintenance Foreman, who shall super-
vise all street and construction work in and about the
City of Seal Beach. the collection and disposal of all
garbage and refuse, the operation of all uater and
sewer plants and systems. and direct, hire and dis-

therewith.Areservirig to the City Councir the ght to
designate the number of laborers to be employed, and
who shall perform any and all other duties required
by Or.dinance, Resolution or Orders of the City Council
of s&.id City. The compensation of such Maintenance
Foreman shall be the sum of T~~ HUNDR~D T~K (~2l0.00)
27 DOLL~RS per month, payable monthly. Said City Council
28 may from time to time engage the services of a Consul-
29 ting Engineer at such compensation as the City 80uncil
30 may determine. Provided further, ho~ever. that the
31 Maintenance Foreman may employ a Sewer N~intenance man
32 at the rate of ON~ (;1.00) DGLLAR per hour. The com-

9 t.J ""!AV"l., a newspaper of general circulation, printed
10 and published in said City, and said Ordinance shall
11 become effective thirty (30) days from and after the
12 date of its final passage.
