AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, CREATING AND PROVIDING FOR OFFICES AND POSITIONS IN THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, IN THE COUNTY OF ORANGE STATE OF CALIFORNIA~ FIXING THE SALARIES, COh~ENSATIONS AND BuNDS, AND DEFINING THE DUTIES INCIDENT THERETO AND REPEAL- ING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE. The City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California, does ordain as follows: Section l~ POLIC~ D~PARTMENT The Department of police of said City shall be under the direction and control of a Chief of police who shall be appointed by the City Council and hold such office at the pleasure of such Council. It shall be the duty of the Chief of police to prosecute uefore the City Court all breaches or violations of or the non-compliance with any ordinanc y' of said City which shall come to his knowledge. The Chief of police, in addition to such duties, shall collect all city licenses excepting contractor's licenses, and shall deposit said amounts in the office of the City Treasurer monthly, and shall perform all duties required by law and Statutes of the State of California. The Chief of police shall receive as compensation the sum of TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS ($250.00) per month, payable monthly together with sum of THIRTY DOLLARS ($30.00) per month for the use of automobile of the Chief of police. such compensation to be retroactive and 25 26 27 28 29 30 have full force and effect from and after the 7th 31 day of July 1944. 32 -1- I I I DANA. Ordinance NllIllber for the next succeeding six months of service such 22 police officers shall receive as compensation the 23 sum of $195.00 per month. In the event any police 24 officer has had previous police experience, satisfact- 25 ory to the Chief of Police and City Council, the 26 City Council may by resolution or motion fix the 27 compensation of such police officer at the sum of 28 $195.00 per month at the time said officer is appoint- ed. The compensation of such pOlice officers to be 29 30 31 32 retroactive and have full force and effect from and after the 7th day of JUly, 1944. -2- I I I Ordinance Number . 1 (e) The Chief of Police may appoint, sub- 2 ject to the approval and confirmation of the City 3 Council, one or more additional temporary police 4 officers who shall receive compensation at the rate 5 of eighty cents (80i) per hour. The compensation 6 of such police officers shall be retroactive and 7 hav.e full force and effect from and after the 7th 8 day of July 1944. 9 entering upon the duties of Chief of police shall furnish Before 10 Chief of Police such 11 to the City a bond for the faithful performance of 12 his duties as such Chief of Police. The Chief of 13 Police shall furnish to the city a bond in the penal 14 sum of $ / IJDO e which bond shall be approved 15 by the ~ayor and City Council of said city. 16 Section 2: LIFE GUARDS 17 The Chief of police may appoint subject to 18 the approval and confirmation of the City Council, 19 one or more life guards who shall perform such 20 duties as may be designated by the Chief of police 21 and captain of Life Guards. The compensation of 22 such life guards shall be the sum of sixty-two and. 23 one-half cents (62~~) per hour and such compensation 24 shall be retroactive and have full force and effect 25 from and after the 7th day of JUly 19~4. 26 Section 3: All ordinances or parts of 27 ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby 28 repealed. section 4: 29 The City Clerk shall cause this 30 31 32 ordinance to be published once in the S~AL B~ACH POST & ~AVE, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in said City. -3- DANA R WILLIAMS ATTORNEY AT LAW .., .I!CURITY "LOG.
