The Oity Oouncil of the Oity of Seal Beach, Oalifornia, does ordain as follows: Seotion 1. There are hereby created and provided for the following offioes and positions in the llunicipal Government of the Oity of Seal Beach, in the Oounty of Orange, State of California, for which are provided the following salaries, compensations and bonds and the duties incident thereto and more partioularly herein- after stated, together with certain conveyance and expense for the certain officials and employees therein designated as follows: (a) DEPAR~EHT OF OITY ABSESSOR, TAX OOLLEOTOR, \lATER & BUILDHTG SUPERBTElfDEHT, etc. There is hereby created and provided for the office of Oity Assessor, Tax Collector, ~ater and Building Superintendent and affiliated offices. The City Assessor and Tax Oollector shall also be Deputy City Clerk, City Assessor, Deputy l:arshall, and Ex-Officio Tax Collector of said Oity, and shall collect and pay all real and personal property taxes of said Oity into the Office of the Oity Treasurer monthly. The Building Superintendent shall collect any and all contractor's licenses due said Oity and pay the same into the office of the Oity Treasurer monthly, and in addition to the above foregoing duties the Oity Assessor and Tax Oollector shall perform such other duties in respect to such offices as have been from time to time provided for by the Ordinances of said City and which may hereafter be provided for by Ordinanoe, Resolution or Orders of the City Counoil of the said Oity of Seal Beach. That the ~1ater and Street Superintendent in addition to the above foregoing duties, as Oity Assessor and Tax Oollector, shall compute and mail out all monthly bills to water consumers and colleot for the same as by ordinance provided in said City, paying the same into the office of the Oity Treasurer conthly. That the compensation of the City Assessor, Tax Oollector, Uater and Btreet Superintendent, shall be the sum of Two Hundred Twenty-Five (~225.00) per month, payable monthly. (b). STEllOGRAPHER. There is hereby created and provided for in the office of the City Assessor, Tax Oollector, \later and Building Superintendent, and affiliated offices, the position of a Stenographer or Assistant. The compensation for such position shall be the sum of One Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars (~125.00) per month, payable monthly. - 1 - . . That there is hereby created and provided for the position of Building, Se~er, Electrical and Plucbing Inspector, \~ho shall also serve as Purchasing i~ent for said Uity of Beal Be~ch, rnd that the coupensation for such position or positions shall be the sum of One Hundred Seventy-Five Dollars (J175.00) per month, payable monthly, to~ether ~ith the sum of Twenty-Five Dollars (j25.00) payable ~onthly, as an allo~anoe for the use of an auto~obile and other equipuent. That the .Ia.ter and Street Superintendent is further authorized to employ a Ili ty Electrician et the rate of Eighty-Five Oents (ii0.g5), per hour, uhose duty it shall be to keep all electrioal equipment of srid Uity in ~ood order and repair, and to do and perforu such other duties and uork as ~ay be directed by the said Superintendent or under orders of the uity Uouncil. (h) POLIOE DEPART~~T. The Department of Polioe of so.id Oity sholl be under the direction and control of a Ohief of Polioe who shall be appointed by the Oity Counoil and hold such office at the pleasure of such Council. It shall be the duty of the Ohief of Police to prosecute before the Oity Oourt all breaches or violations of or the non- complianoe \"lith any ordinanoe of s'aid Oi ty which shall oome to his knowledge. The Chief of Polioe, in addition to such duties, shall collect all city lioenses exoepting cOlltraotorls licenses, and shall deposit svid amounts in the office of the Oity Treasurer monthly, and shall perform all duties required by leu and stututes of the state of Oalifornia. The Ohief of Police shall receive as cocpen- s~,tion the sum of One Hundred Eighty Dollars ((;lgO.OO) per Llonth payable monthly, together \"lith the sum of Thirty Dollars (~30.00~ per month, payable monthly, as an allowance for the use of an auto- mobile and other equipment. The Ohief of Police may appoint, subject to the approva.l a,nd confirmation of the Oity CounCil, one or more Police Officers, including a woma,n police officer, to be kncwn as the Polioe L:a.tron. The Ohief of Police may also, with concurrence of the l~yor, when the'same is deemed necessary for the preservation of the publio order, appoint additional police officers and shall perform such other services as the General Laus of the State, Ordinanoes, Reso- lutions and ~,otions of the Oi ty Oouncil may require. The oompen- sation of Police Officers shall be One Hundred Sixty-Five Dollars (~165.00) each, per month, payable monthly end the compensation of' the Police ~~tron shall be Forty Dollars (j40.00) per month, payable monthly. (i) IJITY OOUR'r. The Uity Gourt shall have the saue jurisdiotion as a Justice1s Oourt of Olass B in all civil and criminal actions arising uithin the corporate limits of the Oity of Seal Beaoh and that might be tried in such Justice1s oourt, according to the rules of practioe and orocedure set forth in the General Laws of the State of Calif- ornia and Ordino.noes of said tJi ty. (j) CITY GARD~'!ER. The Oity Oouncil may appoint a Oity Gardner who shall supervise and tend to the landscaping, beautification with grass shrubbery and flowers and the caintenance of the city parks, oity grounds in connection with public buildings and lawn parkings along city streets and such other services as t~y be required by ordinance, resolution and motion of the Oity Council of said Oity. fhe compensation for such Oi~y Gardner shall be One Hundred Bixty Dollars (~160.00) per month payable monthly, and in a4dition thereto sha~l have a car aliouance of Fifteen Dollars (~15.00) per month, payable monthly. Section 2. The provisions of this Ordinance shall be retroactive and effective as of July 1, 1941, uhich ie the begin- ning of the current fiscal year of said Oity. Section 3. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in confliot uith this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. The Oity Clerk shall cause this Ordinance to be published once in the Seal Beach Post & ".rave, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in said City, and it shall there- upon take effect. 1941.
