DINANCE CREATING AND PROVIDING FOR A VOJUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT IN THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE COMPENSATION TO BE PAID, DEFINING THE DUTIES OF mEM- BERS THEREOF, AND REPEALING ALL ORDIN1\:NCES IN CONFLICT THEdEVn'l'H. . The Board of Trustees and City Co~cil of the City of Seal BeaCh, California, do ordain; as follows: Section 1. ~e Fire Department of the City of Seal Beach, Cali- " fornia, shall consist of Volunteer Companies of fireman, organlzew into engine, hose and hook and ladder companies. Sec. 2. The Chief of the fire dopartment of the city shall be' eleet ed annually on or after July 1st., of each year,by the members ".there " . of, his name certified forthwith to the Board of Tra8tees and Ci~ Council, and upon approval and appointment to such office by said trustees and council, shall hold such office for one year or until his successor is elected and qualified; the first election for a chief of such department to be held on or after July lat, 1933,un- less a vacancy 'ccur in such office prior thereto as the same now. exisvs. I Sec. 3. The chief of the fire depaDt~ent shall inquire into the K cause of every fire occuring in said city, and keep a record there- of, he shall have exclusive control of the ,working of the fire de- partment in time of conflagration or fire. He must aid in the en- forcement of all fire ordinanoes duly enacted, examine all build- ings in process of erection, report violations of ordinances re- 11 ... ~~ "...... . .1 ordinazr,"limber I lating to the prevention and extinguishment of fires when directed by the proper authorities, and institute proceedings therefor, ani shall have general control, management, and direction of the fire companies, hose, hook and ladder companles, and engine and fire departments of said city, and shall perfcrm auch other duties as may be by the ordinances of said city, or by law, dmposed upon him. Sec. 4. Thecity shall provide fire engines and all other and neces- sary and proper apparatus for the prevention and extinguishment of tires, and may provide uniforms, costs, hats, boots and all other necessary C10~ng and equipment tor such department and the mem- bers thereof, which in the opinion of said trustees and council may from time to time be deemed neoessary. Sec. 5. There shall be paid to aaid tire department as compensa- , y tion of its members tor attendance at fires, fire drills and meet- ings the sum of Twenty-five Dollarstt25.00) per month, payable monthly, upon demand or demands properly drawn, audited and allowed -I' ib dne course of payments by said city.
