A RESOLUTION OF THE ClTY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEAL BEACH INCLUDING FIFTH'STREET
IN THE CITY SYSTEM OF MAJOR CITY STREETS
WHEREAS, Fifth Str,eilt in the City o(SeaL Beach lying between
Ocean Avenue and BoLsa Aven\le not now incLuded in the City System of
Major streets, and
, WHEREAS, the City is in the process of pll!-nning the extensil;ln of
said Fiftb. Street from Bolsa Avenue to State Highway 101; and
WHEREAS, the n-eed for greater a~d easier aC;,cess to Seal Beach from
State Highwll-y,101 was recognized and discussed in 1951 when the plan was
presented to the Seal ~each Chamber of Commerce. The plan was then

adopted unanimously by thl!! Chamber and subsequently presented to the City
Council.

Funds wer\i1 not available a~ that time, but the pLan was again presented
in 1953. . It was approved and street plans were authorizec;l. After the road-

Thi.s will be an important link 1.n our street system which will provide

access from the new residentt,al area to' our beaches; the Long Beach ~rina,
and thence to Naples, Belmont Shore and to Long Beach. It will provide

im eaSier, safer turn-in street for the hundre'ds of'traiLer-boat owners who
. now must make an almost complete stop before making the sharp, acute
angle-turn at State Highway 101 and BoLsa Avenue. Many accidents and near
accidents have occurred at this point.

Fr~m ~ commerical viewpoint, beach visitors a!ld tourists 'will be
provided with one more access to enter Seal Beach, find their way to our fine
beaches, p~tronize our municipal parking lots and business houses. As' we

have little or no industl'Y, we must depend on tourists to provide money so
vitally necessary to our economic welfare and growth.
When the extension is completed two very important business corners
on State Highway 101 will be created. Retail b\lsiness on these two cornerS
, will increase our sales tax revenue. The new street lies directly in the path
of the boating enthusists and will be developed into a flOlluishing retail boat
suppLy center.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City C~uncil of the City of Seal Bea.ch. does
res Dive as follows:
SECTION 1: That Fifth St r(;!et lying between Ocean Avenue and Bolsa
Aveme is hereby included in the City System of Major City Streets, subject
to the approv!l-l of the Department of Public Works~ I?i.vision of Highways.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to'
send two certified copies of this Resolution to the Los 'Angeles Office of the
Division of Highways of the State of California.
PASSED~ APPROVED A~ ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Seal Beach at a regu~r meeting thereof held on the 18th day of November,
1958.
