RESOLUTION NO.~
2 WHEREAS, the water supply ot the C1ty of Seal Beach has been
3 suddenly and oompletely endangered by salt water 1nflltrat10n and
4 other 1nt11trat10n to the underground basin trom whioh sa1d supply
5 1s der1ved; as wlll more fully appear by reference to the report of
6 J. A. Woolley,' tormerly C1 ty Eng1neer of the C1 ty of Seal Beaoh,
7 on file w1th the C1ty Clerk of sald C1ty; and
8 WHEREAS, domest1c water has b~en turnlshed to the C1ty of
9 Seal Beach by the C1ty ot Long Beach; and
10 WHEREAS, the supply of water now turn1shed the City of Seal
11 Beaoh by the C1ty ot Long Beaoh 1s unoertain and 1nsutt101ent for
12 the needs of the oommun1ty and of exceedlngly h1gh cost to the
13 C1ty ot Seal Beach; and
14 WHEREAS, 1t has been represented to the C1ty Counc1l ot the
15 C1ty ot See~ Beaoh that a oertain F1lter known as an Olson F1lter 1s
16 capable, 1f properly 1nstalled, of t1lter1ng the water trom the
17 C1ty-owned wells ln suoh a manner as to make said water t1t tor
18 human consumption and use; and
19 WHEREAS, 1 t 1s necessary lmmediately to obtain said water
20 t1lter, and the only known manutacturer thereot is Olson F1ltra~10n
21 Eng1neers, Inc., l624 No. K1lbourn Ave., Chioago 39, Ill1n01s; ~d
22 WHEREAS, the C1ty Counoil of the C1ty of Seal Beach believes
23 that an emergenoy exlsts by reason of the domestic water s1tuat10n
24 1n the City ot Seal Beaoh, and by reason thereof a great publio ca-
25 lam1ty eX1sts 1n the C1ty of Seal Beach;
26 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the City Counoll ot the
27 C1ty of Seal Beach deolares and determ1nes that publ1c 1nterest
28 and necess1 ty demand the 1mmediate expenditure ot publ1c money

29 for the purohase of a domestlc water f1lter 1n order that water
30 available to the C1ty may be made t1t tor human consumpt10n; and
31 BE IT.FURTHER RESOLVED that pub110 1nterest and neoess1ty de-
32 mand that a contract be entered 1nto 1mmediately 1nvolv1ng the ex-

pendlture ot at least the sum of 82,640.00 in the emergency whlch
is now faced by the City ot Seal Beach in reference to its water
supply; and.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the sum of .2,~.00 be set
aslde for the purpose of meetlng the emergency hereln partlcularly
descr1bed, and that the Mayor and Clty Clerk be authorlzed, direoted
and. instruoted to immed1atelY enter into a contract with Utll1tles
Supply Company, of 1736 East F1fteenth Street, Los Angeles 21,
Californla, for the purchase of one (1) Olson Filter and the In-
stallat10n thereof, which Olson Filter is described as Model 36-36-
216; 7000 Gals. per Hour Dry Clnr. Solvent; 207 Sq. Ft. Filter Area;
235 Gallons Holding CapacifYi Height 101"; Floor Spaoe 57" x 42".
I hereby oertify that the above and foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly passed and adopted by the Clty Counoil of
the City of Seal Beach at a regular meeting of the City Oouncl1
held on the 3rd day of October, 1949, by the following vcte,
to-wit:
