A RESOLUTION OF 'l'HE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEaCH, CALIFORNIA, IN COlaMEr~ORa.'l'ION OF
THE PASSING AWAY OF JOHN O. ORD, TH..i: FIRST
MAYOR OF SAID CITY, ON JANUARY lSTH,1937.
2 WHEREAS, JOHN O. OND, the first Mayor of the City of Seal
3 Beach, Oalifornia, passed away on January 15th, 1937; and
4 WHEREAS, the deceased first oame to the community which is
5 now Sesl Beaah in the year 1901, was' inatrumental in its incorpora-
6 tion as a Oity of Sixth Olass on Ootober 27th, 1915, became ita fir t
7 Mayor virtually by popular acolamation, and was the first city judg
8 snd poatmeater of Seal Beaoh, though called to his eternal resting
9
place at the venerable old age

11 in and about Seal Beach was the Father of this Oity. FUrther John
12 Oharles Ord was the last surviving member of Oompany E, Ninth Ver-
13 mont Volunteers, was present at the surrender of General Lee of the
14 Oonfederate Army, and a Charter Member of the Long Beaoh G.A.R. He
15 was one of a family of fifteen ohildren, and is aurvived by five
16 aistera and a aon,~nest W.ord, reaiding in the State of Massaohu-~
17 saetta.After holding the several pdblio offices in the Oity of Seal

23 conducted Monday, January 18th, 1937, by the Seal Beach Masinio
24 Lodge of whioh he waa a most honored member, burial was at Rest
25 Minister Memorial Park, Midway Oity, Oalifornia: and
26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE mT RESOLVED: that the City Council of the

City of Seal Beach in order to eommemorate the memory of the late
John Charles Ord, the firat"Mayor of this Oity, its founder Bnd it

2 and honored citizen may be perpetuated and that oopies thereof be
3 sent to his relatives as an expression of aympsthy.
4 I hereby oertify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
5 introduced, passed and adopted by the Oity Oouncll of the Oity of
6 Seal Beaoh. California, at a regular meeting thereo~ held on the
7 21st day of January. 1937, by the following vote of the members
