RESOLUTION NO.;50
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, IN COMMEMORATION OF
THE PASSING AWAY OF J. P. TRANSUE, A FORMER
CITY OFFICIAL OF SAID CITY, ON FEBRUARY
28th, 19;8.
WHEREAS, J. P. Transue, a former City Councilman of the City
of Seal Beach, California, passed away on Febrpary 28th, 1938; and,
WHEREAS, the deceased has been a resident of Seal Beach for
over twenty-one yoars during whioh time he has been active in the
development of this oommunity, having sQrved upon the City Counoil
from 1924 to 1928, and also served in the oapacity of Oity Clerk for
an unexpired term of six months be~innin8 in the fall of 1917, while
with the initiation of city planning in September, 19;2, he later w
appointed as ohairman of the City Planning Commission in whioh con-
neotion he served for several years. His residenoe in said City was
at 119 Seventh Street and he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nellie
Ely Transue of Seal BeaOh, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Toombs and two gra
children of Los Angeles. Funeral services were held on March 2nd,
from Mottel's Mortuary and Chapel in Long Beach and interment will b
at Rosedale Cemetery, Los Angeles, where Woodmen of the World will ~
in oharge of the servioes.
That in addition to civio service rendered this city, the de-
ceased has also served Southern California and the State, having bee
a member of the State Assembly for four terms from 190; to 1911, and
was Speaker of the House pro tem during 1907. That subsequent there-
to and for many years until his death he was assooiated with Mr. P.A.
Stanton, as secretary of the Bayside Land Company, through which oor
~oratioD the city of Seal Beach came into being; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; that the City Council of the
City of Seal Beach, California, in order to commemorate the memory
of the late J.P.Transue, a former member of the City Council and Cit
Official of this City and actively ase~ciated with other civic organ-
izations in the development and history of the City; and,
&E IT FURTHER RESOLVED; that the City Clerk be direoted and
requested to spread this Resolution upon the Offioial Records of this
City in order that the memory of this honored omtizen and former City
Offioial may be perpetuated and that copies hereof be sent to his
relatives as an expression of sympathy.
I hereby oertify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
introd~oed, passed and adopted by the City Counoil of the City af
Seal Beach, California, at a regular meeting thereof held on the ;rd
day of March, 1938, by the following vote of the members thereof:
