Meeting was called to order by Chairman Boeger at 7:35 P.M.
Minutes of the meeting of March 16, 1966 were approved as presented.
I. Continuation of Plan Review - Wooden Shoe Restaurant Sign (PR-3-66)
Mr. Freedman of Heath & Co. presented drawing showing colors planned for sign and
gave dimensions of installation. He stated it would not interfere with visibility
of present Seal Beach sign at Bolsa and Pacific Coast Highway. A letter from
Mr. Moss, developer of the center, addressed to Mr. Lee Risner, City Manager, was
presented stating his approval of the proposed sign. General discussion followed
regarding the understanding that the only major sign would be the Seal Beach
Center sign and that the buildings and signs were all to conform to the adjoining
residential area. Commission requested a restatement of policy by the ownerl
developer so consistent decisions might be made. It was further discussed that
if a change from the original understanding is to be made, the other businessmen
and neighboring residents be notified to allow them to express their feelings.
This matter was deferred until the next meeting.
4It II. Public Hearings - St. Anne's Parish, 340 10th St., (V-3-66)
Mr. Ayres of Ayres & Fiege, Architects, and representing St. Anne's Parish, requested
a variance to all the existing assembly hall to be replaced by a new building with
less than the required number of parking spaces and less than required rear yard
setback. The following points were discussed: The sanctuary and assembly hall
would not have maximum use at the same time. The new bU1lding would only reduce
the parking area by four spaces, still leaving 67 off-street parking spaces
available. Access doors on the rear of the building would open into a recessed
area and not directly onto the alley. There would be no auto openings on the rear
side of the building. No objections were received.
Dr. Kunkel moved that the variance be approved, seconded by Mr. Crowley and passed
unanimously.
III. Other business
General discussion on proposing an amendment to control location of beer bars in
the city.
Members notified that the pub11c hearings on the master plan have been postponed
to May 4 and May 18.

the Southern California Planning Congress.
