HomeMy WebLinkAboutPC Min 1966-03-16 . . . . e MINUTES OF PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING OF MARCH 16, 1966 The Seal Beach Planning Commission met in regular seSS10n on Wednesday, March 16, 1966, in the Council Chamber at C1ty Hall. Present: Absent: Boeger, Crowley, Kunkel, Tw1ning Lann1ng M1nutes of meeting of March 2, 1966 were approved as presented. 1. Cont1nuat1on of Plan Review - Pole Sign for "Tastee-Freeze" 1n Seal Beach Center (PR-2-66) Rev1ew of d1scussion from last meet1ng. Dr. Kunkel moved to deny as subm1tted. Mot10n seconded by Mr. Crowley and passed unan1mously by the members present. / A new plan for a rev1sed s1gn was subm1tted wh1ch fits the or1g1nal des1gn of the Shopping Center. Dr. Kunkel moved to approve the revised plan, seconded by Mr. Twin1ng and passed unan1mously by the members present. II. Plan Review - Wooden Shoe Restaurant Sign - (PR-3-66) Mr. Howard Freedman of Heath & Co. descr1bed the 10cat10n for the sign and gave a detailed description of the sign. Mr. Boeger adv1sed him that Mr. Moss, the developer of the Seal Beach Center, was unaware of th1s sign plan and that 1t does not fit the developer's concept. The matter was deferred unt11 the next meet1ng. III. Pub11c Hear1ng - Jack T. Cairns, 640 Taper Dr. (V-2-66) Mr. Cairns requested a var1ance from the front yard setback requ1rement to enable him to convert his garage from a side entry to a front entry and allow room for a patio and landscaping to improve the general appearance of the property. The legal descr1ption of the property 1S Los 64, Tract 2590, Seal Beach. Approval requ1red by deed restr1ct10ns had been received. It was stated that other houses with front entry garages in the area were located on the property in a s1m1lar manner. No on street park1ng spaces would be lost. Street tree would be trans- planted 1nto area of present dr1veway. Mr. TW1n1ng moved to approve the request as subm1tted. Seconded by Mr. Crowley and passed unan1mously by the members present. Resolution No. 58 IV. Other bus1ness Commission adv1sed that Apr1l 20 and May 4 were the dates legally posted for pub11c hearings on the General Plan. A general d1scussion was held on zoning for beer bars. Commiss10n requested the Secretary and C1ty Manager to prepare a preliminary amendment to cover prox1mity to res1dential areas and requ1rement of a conditional use permit in a C-2 Zone and subm1t it for their consideration at the next meet1ng. Mr. Twin1ng stated he was no longer a res1dent of the City and tendered h1s res1gnation. He stated that he'had enJoyed the experience and it had been a pleasure to serve on the Comm1ssion. . . . e e Dr. Kunkel moved that the C1ty be requested to present Mr. Twining with a plaque of apprec1at10n.
