The meet1ng was called to order by Cha1rman Knapp at 7:30 p.m., and t~e Pledge to the Flag was led by Comm1ss10ner Cook. Present Knapp, Cook, Lann1ng, R1pperdan, '1adsen Absent: None The m1nutes of the November 3, 1976 meet1ng were approved as presented. 1. Pub11c Hear1ngs Ph1ll1p 011ver, V-16-76 App11cant 1S request1ng a Var1ance to perm1t the construct10n of a duplex 1n the R-3 zone w1th less than the requ1red exter10r s1de yard setback adJacent to an alley. Pub11c Hearing Opened. Ph1ll1p 011ver, 300 Ocean Avenue stated that he had noth1ng to add to the Staff Report. No one spoke 1n favor or 1n Oppos1t10n to the Var1ance. One letter was rece1ved 1n support of the Var1ance from Hal and Patr1c1a Beesley, 350 Ocean Avenue. The Planning Comm1SS10n d1scussed the adv1sab1l1ty of amend1ng the Zon1ng Ord1nance to allow a three foot setback on 25 foot w1de lots adJacent to an alley or street for the length of the garages. Staff w1ll look 1nto such an amendment. Pub11c Hear1ng CLosed. Lann1ng moved to approve V-16-76, seconded by R1pperdan and unam10usly approved. Res. 1034. 2. Oral Commun1cat10ns A. A. Jean Dorr gave some 1nformat10n onthe Sunset Beach water tower and asked for a status report on the tower. Staff noted that no report had been 91ven to the Board of Superv1sors. Unt1l the t1me that a report 1S g1ven to the Board, the C1ty has no method of assess1ng the ult1mate status of the to~er. 3. Wr1tten Commun1cat10ns A. A letter was rece1ved from Sherry Baum on var10US h1stor1cal related programs. 4. New Bus1ness A. Howard Freedman, PR-23-76 App11cant 1S request1ng approval of a 16 square foot, wood s1gn, to be wall mounted at 213 ~a1n Street. Knapp moved to approve PR-23-76, seconded by Lann1ng an unam10usly approved. Res. 1035. . e . B. James QUlnn, PR-24-76 Appllcant lS requestlng approval of two wall mounted slgns, each eleven square feet In area. Lannlng moved to approve PR-24-76, seconded by Rlpperdan and unamlously approved. Res. 1036. . C. Conslderatlon of name for street adJacent to the Pollee Statlon and Clty Yard The Plannlng Commlsslon dlscussed varlOUS optlons for names of the new street to be bUlld adJacent to the Pol'lee Statlon and Clty Yard. The Commlsslon all favored slmple names. After discusslon Knapp moved to recommend two names to City Councll, Case Street and Basln Street, seconded by Cook and unamlously approved. Res. 1037. 5. Report from Secretary A. Secretary gave a report on the new Coastllne leglslatlon. B. Electlon results by preclnct wlll be dlstrlbuted as soon as posslble. C. The proposals for Maln Street lmprove~ent were revlewed. D. Staff wlll be meetlng wlth lnterested bUSlnessmen on Thursday, December 2nd at 8 15 a.m. In the Councll Chambers to dlSCUSS the Slgn Ordlnance.
