CITY OF SEAL BEACH
MINUTES OF-PLANNING CO~~1ISSION MEETING of January 14, 1963.
The Seal-Bea~h' piannlng' Co~ssion met in regular session on Monday,
Janu~ry 14, 1963, 1n the ,_council chamber of City Hall.
Present:

Secretary John Stratford

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Boeger at 7:36 P.M.
The minutes of the meeting held on December 10, 1962, were approved
as r,ead.
ITEM NO.1. Public Hearing - R-3 Zone Parking Re~irements.
Secretary Stratford read the notice of public hearing as it was
~dvertised.
Chairman Boeger stated that previously the R-3 Zone had required
one parki~g space for each living unit and ~hat this had been
changed over the Planning Commission's ~ection by the City
Council to a requ~rement of two parking spaces for every three
living units. Now because of the rate of growth in the City and
the resultant parking problems, the Planning Commission was
recommending the return to the reqlirement of one parking space
for each living unit. '
There were no objections or opposition.
Mr. Bender moved that the Planning Commission recommend to the
pity Council that Ordinance 406, Section No. 13, Paragraph 5,
~s amended (Ordinance 539), be amended as follows~ "There shall
be provided 9n each lot, parcel of ground or building site, a
minimum of one garage space or automobile parking space for each
living unit." Mr. Griswold seconded the motion, and it was passed
by a unanimo~s v9te.
The secretary was directed to advise the City Council of this
recommendation.
ITEM NO.2. American Legion Letter.
A l'etter was read from~ the Am~rican Legion, Seal Beach Post #300,
~equesting clarification of zone and. whether there were any
restrictions in regard to the sale of alcoholic beverages. The
secretary was directed to advise them that the property now .
known as American Legion Community Center is zoned M-2 and there
are no re~trictions pertaining to the sale of alcoholic beverages.

. ITEM NO.3. Future Business
A joint "meeting with the City Council was requested as soon as
possible to complete the ~tudy of the proposed new 'ordinance and to
meet with the representative of Hahn, Wise and Associates, planning
consultants.
ITEM NO.4. AdjoUI'nment
A mation was made to adjourn to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 22, 1963,
Qy Mr. Griswold, and seconded by Mr. ~ining.
