MINUTES OF PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING OF MAY 22p 1968
The Seal Beach Planning Commission met in regular adjourned session on Wednesdayp
May 22, 1968, in the Council Chamber at City Hall.

Boeger, Crowley, Lanning, Murphy, Peters
None
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Crowley at 7:35 P.M.
1. Public Hearing - Charles E. Baner, V-10-68
Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Banerp 3611 Teaberry Circle, Seal Beach (Lot 49, Tract 6416)
request a variance to enable them to locate pool operating equipment inside the
required five foot setback. This location would be most distant from neighboring
residences also best for fire and safety. No protests received. It would not be
detrimental to the area and would not affect the General Plan. Mr. Boeger moved
to grant the variance as requested with the condition that the top of the heater
vent not exceed the height of the wall by more than 6 inches and that it be setback
5 feet from the side property line and 2~ feet from the rear property line.
Seconded by Mr. Peters and passed unanimously. REsolution No. 219.
Staff instructed to set a public hearing to amend the ordinance regarding swimming
pool regulations.

2. Public Hearing - Bixby Ranch Co., UV-3-68
Bixby Ranch Co., 911 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, represented by Don Emerson,
requested a Use Variance to permit construction of an identification sign on their
property located just northerly of the San Diego Freeway and west of Los Alamitos
Blvd. Similar identification signs would be erected in other cities to promote
all areas. Discussion of ordinance of signs abutting freeways. Requested more
information in this area to avoid any violation. No lighting of signs at night.
Mr. Boeger moved to continue the hearing until staff has clarified the regulations
with the State. Seconded by Mrs. Lanning and passed unanimously.
3. Public Hearing - Pre-Zoning of Annexation No. 67-1 (Surfside)
Commission advised that the vote on annexation to Seal Beach had been passed by
Ai large/majority. Discuslfllilon of necessary zoning and requirements. District
3 should be established for this area. Recommendations had been submitted by
the Surfside Colony. Mr. Boeger moved to continue until June 5 and instruct the
staff to submit a proposed ordinance at that time. Seconded by Mrs. Lanning and
passed unanimously.
4. Other business
Discussion of illegal signboards in the city. Also sign whose time limit had
expired. Staff to report.
No further business, the .meeting was adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
