RESOLUTION NO. 1262 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEAL BEACH PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVING AND RECOMMENDING TO CITY COUNCIL ADOPTION OF ZONING TEXT AMENDMENT ZTA-5-82 DEALING WITH COMPACT CAR PARKING IN COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ZONES WHEREAS, existing zoning regulations only provide for conventional parking stalls of 9 feet by 20 feet in commercial and industrial zones; and WHEREAS, during the last 20 years, automobiles have become smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient; and WHEREAS, compact cars and subcompact cars now account for over half of new and used car sales and that percentage is increasing; and WHEREAS, large jurisdictions, universities and aerospace firms have success with providing a percent of parking spaces for compact cars; and WHEREAS, by providing for compact car parking, more :parkirig spaces can be provided. . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Commission does hereby approve and recommend to City Council adoption of the following zoning text amendment to read: "In commercial and industrial zones, up to 25% compact car parking spaces may be included in the total parking count subject to staff approval. Each space shall be 8 feet wide by 16 feet deep, with a 24-foot turning radius. A complete parking plan must be submitted that is acceptable to staff."
