RESOLUTION NO. 49
A RESOLUTION OJ.' THE PLANNING CO~ISSION OF THE
CITY OF SEAL BEACH APPROVAL OF VARIANCE APPLICATION
NO. V-12-65
WIIEREAS, in the matter of Variance Application No V-12-65 the Planning Commission
of the City of Seal Beach does hereby report as follows:
1. Subject case was initiated by Jerry Moss and Co., 2777 Silver Spur Road,
Palos Verdes Peninsula.
2. Subject case is for the installation of a tower type sign, with rotating
illuminated globe top, as the main identification siRn of the proposed
Union Oil Co. service station at Pacific Coast Highway and Bolsa Avenue.
3. Legal description of the property is a portion at the westerly corner of
Lot 161, Tract 2591, and is located at 901 Pacific Coast Highway.
WHEREAS, the Plannin~ Commission findings are as follows:
1. The rotating illuminlited globe is made of translucent material which diffuses
the light in all directions in a manner which produces no ~lare. There
should be no hazardous distractions to motorists.
2. There is a somewhat similar existing rotating sign located at the Shell
service station diagonally across Pacific Coast Highway at Main Street.
This sign does not appear to create any difficulti~s.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning CommiRsion of the City of Seal
Beach does hereby approve Varianc~ Application No. V-12-65 to allow construction
of an illuminated rotating tower sign at the Union 011 service station, corner
of Balsa Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. /
ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 3rd day of November, 1965.
