RESOLUTION NO.
131
A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SEAL BEACH APPROVING A VARIANCE TO PERMIT
A ROTATING POLE MOUNTED SIGN AT 412 MARINA DRIVE
(IRVINE LIQUOR, V-lO-67)
WHEREAS, in the matter of Variance Application, V-lO-67, the Planning Commission
of the City of Seal Beach does report as follows:
1. Subject case was initiated by Irvine Liquor, 412 Marina Drive, Seal Beach.
2. Subject property is described as Lots 61, 63 and 65, Block 104, Stanton and
Lothian's Second Addition.
3. Subject request is for a Variance to allow a rotating, pole mounted, internally
illuminated sign, with the faces indicating "Groceries" and "Liquor".
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission findings are as follows:
1. The location at the intersection of Fifth Street, Marina Drive and Electric
Avenue, causes difficulties in providing signing which faces all directions
of traffic. A slowly revolving sign will reduce the size and number of sign
faces to a minimum and be better in appearance than a multitude of single
direction signs.
2. Maximum allowable speed of rotation should be four (4) revolutions per minute
to prevent distraction.
3. Subdued and evenly distributed internal illumination, as presented, is
acceptable. No flashing allowable.
4. Maximum height to top of top panel shall not be more than twelve (12) feet
ahove roofline, or a total of twenty-four (24) feet above ground line.
5. This variance shall not be considered as approval of additional future signs
at this property. All future signs (on building or window signs) to be
subject to Plan Review and approval by the Planning Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Commission of the City of Seal
Beach does hereby approve'Variance No. V-lO-67, subject to the conditions indicated
in the findings above.
