RESOLUTION
465
A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH DENYING VARIANCE
APPLICATION NO. V-14-70 FOR A ROTATING
FREE STANDING IDENTIFICATION SIGN AT THE
MOBIL OIL SERVICE STATION AT THE INTERSECTION
OF BOLSA AVE. AND PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY.
(TAPER/MOBIL OIL)
WHEREAS, in the matter of Variance Application No. 4-14-70,
the Planning Commission of the City of Seal Beach does report as
follows:
1. Subject case was initiated by Mark Taper, Suite 900, 9465 Wilshire
Blvd., Beverly Hills, represented by Authorized Agent Mobil Oil
Company, 3655 South Soto Street, Los Angeles.
2. Legal description of property on file, street address 815 Pacific
Coast Highway, Seal Beach.
3. Subject request is to place a rotating free standing identification
sign 30 feet in height at the westerly corner of the parcel.
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission findings are as follows:
1. Plans indicated that the sign would encroach into the State
Highway right-of-way.
2. The proposed sign is 30 feet in height, five feet over the height
allowed under Ordinance No. 748.
3. No variances for rotating signs have been approved for the last
several years.
4. Two rotating signs already exist at that intersection, causing
considerable distraction to passing motorists.
NOW, THREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Commission of the
City of Seal Beach does hereby deny Variance No. V-14-70 for the
above mentioned reasons.
