RESOLUTION NO.
892
A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH RECOMMENDING THAT THE
CITY COUNCIL DETERMINE THAT GREENHOUSE
STRUCTURES NOT BE PERMITTED ON THE ROOF OF
BUILDINGS IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES.
A request was filed with the Planning Commission for a clarification of ambiguity
regarding permitted location of greenhouses in residential zones.
The applicant wished approval of a roof mounted greenhouse in a single family
residential zone.
The Planning Commission considered the request and reviewed the applicable
zoning code sections regarding accessory structures and flower and vegetable
gardens.
The Planning Commission now finds as follows:
1. Flower and vegetable gardens and accessory buildings should be placed on
the ground.
2. The residential zones are restrictive zones and should have architectural
harmony for all structures on the property.
3. Greenhouses and hothouses should not be permitted on the roof of residential
buildings or garages.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Commission of the City of Seal
Beach does hereby recommend that the City Council determine that greenhouse
structures not be permitted on the roofs of buildings in residential zones.
