Whereas, the Seal Beach Host Lions Club, a member of Lions
District 4-L4, Lions Multiple District 4 and Lions Clubs
International -Numbering around 100 members was founded in
1939; and
Whereas, the emblem consists of a gold letter "L" on a circular gold
area with two lion profiles at either side facing away from the center
- the word "Lions" appears at the top and "international" at the
bottom -symbolically, the lions face both past and future -proud of
the past and confident of the future; and
Whereas, the Lions perform many service projects throughout the
year -Flag Day at McGaugh School, Opening and Closing days at
Seal Beach Kids Baseball, river and beach clean-ups, Breakfast with
Santa, Seal Beach Holiday Parade, a Red Cross blood drive; and
Whereas, the annually, they raise $50,000-$60,000 which is then
donated to various charities and organizations.
NOW THERE BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Seal Beach, City
Council does hereby congratulate the

on their 70th Anniversary and wish them the continued success in the
coming years.

Proclamation
"National Public Safety Dispatcher Week"
April 13 - 19, 2009
WHEREAS, emergencies can occur at anytime requiring local public
safety services; and
WHEREAS, the safety of citizens and our police officers is
dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained
from citizens who telephone the West Cities Communications
Center; and
WHEREAS, Public Safety Dispatchers are the first most critical
contact and the single vital link for our law enforcement and fire
personnel by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them
with critical information and ensuring their safety; and
WHEREAS. the Public Safety Dispatchers of the West Cities Police
Communications Center have contributed substantially to the
apprehension of criminals, protection of life and property and
ensuring the safety of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, each of our Public Safety Dispatchers has exhibited
professionalism, dedication, compassion, and caring during the
performance of their job this past year;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE PROCLAIMED that the City of
Seal Beach, a member of the West Cities Joint Powers Authority,
representing the communities of Cypress, Los Alamitos and Seal
Beach, does hereby recognize the week of April 13 - 19, 2009 as
"NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY
DISPATCHER WEEK"
and the City of Seal Beach joins in honoring the women and men,
whose diligence and professionalism keep our communities and
citizens safe.

PROCLAMATION
United States Census
2010
WHEREAS an accurate census count is vital to our community and
residents' well-being by helping planners determine where to locate schools,
day-care centers, roads and public transportation, hospitals and other
facilities, and is used to make decisions concerning business growth and
housing needs;
WHEREAS more than $300 billion per year in federal and state funding is
allocated to states and communities based on census data;
WHEREAS census data ensure fair Congressional representation by
dete~in;ng how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of
Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city
councils, and voting districts;
WHEREAS the 2010 Census creates jobs that stimulate economic growth
and increase employment opportunities in our community;
WHEREAS the information collected by the census is protected by law and
remains confidential for 72 yeazs;
NOW THEREFORE, we proclaim that the City of Seal Beach is committed
to partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to help ensure a full and accurate
count in 2010.
Asa 2010 Census partner, we will:
1) Support the goals and ideals for the 2010 Census and will
disseminate 2010 Census information to encourage those in our
community to participate. 2) Encourage people to place an
emphasis on the 2010 Census and participate in events and
initiatives that will raise overall awareness of the 2010 Census and
ensure a full and accurate census. 3) Support census takers as
they help our community complete an accurate count. 4) Create or
seek opportunities to collaborate with other like-minded groups in
our community, such as Complete Count Committees, to utilize
high-profile, trusted voices to advocate on behalf of the 2010
Census.
