HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC AG PKT 2009-04-13 #NAGENDA STAFF REPORT DATE: April 13, 2009 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council THRU: David Carmany, City Manager FROM: Vince Mastrosimone, Director of Public Works SUBJECT: PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR WEST END PUMP STATION PHASE II PROJECT No. SD0901 SUMMARY OF REQUEST: City Council is asked to approve plans and specifications for the West End Pump Station Phase II Project No. SD0901 and approve the Notice of Inviting Bids. BACKGROUND: The City of Seal Beach is served by two storm water pump stations. One of these, the West End Pump Station, which is located adjacent to the San Gabriel River between the Seal Beach Mobile Home Park and the Oakwood Apartments, is owned by the City. The West End Pump Station Drainage Area covers 175 acres in the Bridgeport, Marina Hill, and Old Town communities. The existing concrete forebay is in need of rehabilitation. There are cracks in the concrete which allow water to seep into the ground that need to be filled. The proposed project will fill the cracks and provide a water tight seal to prevent any seepage or infiltration into the ground. The work consists of repairing cracks, spalling, damaged concrete and providing a protective lining/coating to the forebay. The life of the forebay will be extended by approximately 20 years with these improvements. The specifications have been completed and approved by the City Engineer and staff is ready to solicit for bids. Specifications are available for review in the City Engineer's office. Agenda Item N Page 2 FINANCIAL IMPACT: On the March 10, 2008 City Council Agenda Item, the West End Pump Station Project was accepted and completed under budget. The remaining budget was $150,846.68 and was returned back to Redevelopment Agency Funds. Staff intends to use $90,000 for this project. The engineer's estimate for the West End Pump Station Phase II Project No. SD0901 is $70,000.
