TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council

SUBJECT: PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR WEST END
PUMP STATION PHASE II PROJECT No. SD0901
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
City Council is asked to approve plans and specifications for the West End Pump
Station Phase II Project No. SD0901 and approve the Notice of Inviting Bids.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Seal Beach is served by two storm water pump stations. One of
these, the West End Pump Station, which is located adjacent to the San Gabriel
River between the Seal Beach Mobile Home Park and the Oakwood Apartments,
is owned by the City. The West End Pump Station Drainage Area covers 175
acres in the Bridgeport, Marina Hill, and Old Town communities.
The existing concrete forebay is in need of rehabilitation. There are cracks in the
concrete which allow water to seep into the ground that need to be filled. The
proposed project will fill the cracks and provide a water tight seal to prevent any
seepage or infiltration into the ground.
The work consists of repairing cracks, spalling, damaged concrete and providing
a protective lining/coating to the forebay. The life of the forebay will be extended
by approximately 20 years with these improvements.
The specifications have been completed and approved by the City Engineer and
staff is ready to solicit for bids. Specifications are available for review in the City
Engineer's office.
