HomeMy WebLinkAboutEQCB Min 1980-09-16 , , I -- PI I NUT E S ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY CONTROL BO~qD TUESDAY SEPTE~~ER 16, 1980 REGULAR MEETING 7:30 P.M, The regular meeting of the Seal Beach Enviro~uental Quality Control Board was called to order by Chairman GTayson at 7:40 p,m. Kolb led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, ROLL CALL Present: Grayson ,Kolb ,LaBar,Potter,Willson, NINUTES It was pointed out the last paragraph of the entry "Tribute to DeForest"should be stricken since it had no reference to the tribute. As a new entry in the minutes the following statement should appear"The Board will extend their appreciation and recognition by resolution to deserving members on leaving the Board", With these corrections the minutes were approved, DISCUSSION - OLD BUSINESS San Gabriel River Water Quality:This has been a Board project for some time,Recently a ten mile section of the river from Firestone Blvd, to the ocean was placed under quarantine for swimmin.g and recreational use due to a bacterial spill, This lasted for several weeks. Grayson,~ho has been actively following our project, reported in some detail regarding the present status, It would appear that a worth-while contact has been made to secure data the Board felt would be useful. Grayson will continue to follow this lead, Projects: Grayson reported on another project he has been active in for some time and will keep the Board informed if there are any new developments, Willson reported on assig~ment he was given at the last meeting and it was agreed no Board action is needed at this time, - NEW BUSllTESS Off-shore Airport: Data had been received by some Board members regarding the proposed off-shore airport. This consisted principally of the report by the Southern California Association of Governments entitled "Draft Environmental Impact Report:for Draft Regional Transportation Plan Amendment: Aviation Element July 1980". There was a,_,general discussion of existing environmental pToblems with nearby airports and their impact on Seal Beach, Potter,who:had reviewed the submitted data,gave an in-depth report of the inadequacy of the environmental impact data, Other Board members felt that Board action could not be taken until all members had a chance to study the submission, In the mean- time the Chairman will attempt to determine what the Council may require form the Board, It was pointed out a number of public hearings are being held in various locations by BCAG, COMMUNICATIONS Several communications were briefly discussed but none of them warranted Board action. ADJOUNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 p,m.,to reconvene again on October 21, 1980.
