SUMMARY ®F REQUEST:
The City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 5893 to formally accept
completion of the Pier Deck Rehabilitation Phases II & III, Project No 50217.
SAC~CCaR®UN®:
On July 14, 2008, City Council awarded a contract to Connolly-Pacific Co. in the
amount of $748,760 to construct the Pier Deck Rehabilitation Phases II & III
Project.
The scope of work consisted of the removal of existing decking and fasteners,
purchasing of new decking and fasteners, and installation of new splice support
stringers and new Greenheart hardwood decking.
Phases II & III of the project have been completed and the City Engineer has
accepted the project.
The final Phase IV will start advertising for bids in October 2009 and construction
is estimated to start in May 2010.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The final cost of the Project is $815,185.39.

Funds were budgeted in the approved 2007/08 - 2008/09 Budget, Capital
Improvement Program for Project No. 50217 in the amount of $700,000.
$500,000 was budgeted from the City's General Fund and $200,000 was
budgeted from a State Wildlife Conservation Board Grant. .
At the July 14, 2008 City Council Meeting, Council approved a budget
amendment (Budget Amendment No. 09-01-02) in the amount of $146,198.00 to
cover anticipated costs exceeding the approved original budget amount of
$700,000. The final budget for this project was $846,198.00. The remaining
$31,012.61 will return to its original fund source.
In 2007 the City was awarded the grant from the Wildlife Conservation Board
(WCB) in the amount of $200,000 for the deck rehabilitation project. On June 8,
2009, Council approved an extension for this grant until June 30, 2010 to allow
for project closeout and reimbursement.

It is recommended that the City Council:
Adopt Resolution No. 5893 to accept completion of construction for the
Pier Deck Rehabilitation Phases II & III, Project No 50217.
2. Direct the City Clerk, to file a "Notice of Completion" with the Orange
County Clerk-Recorder within ten (10) days from the date of acceptance.
3. Direct staff to release retention funds of $74,895.00 upon expiration of
thirty-five (35) days from the date of filing of the "Notice of Completion".

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL
BEACH, CALIFORNIA DECLARING WORK TO BE COMPLETED
PER CONTRACT DOCUMENTS FOR PIER DECK
REHABILITATION PHASES II & III PROJECT NO 50217
WHEREAS, on July 14, 2008, the City of Seal Beach entered into a contract with
Connolly-Pacific Co.; and
WHEREAS, the City Engineer has determined that the work has been
substantially completed in accordance with the contract documents.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH
DOES HEREBY RESOLVED:
Section 1. That the work required to be performed by said Contractor has
been completed.
Section 2. That the total cost of said work is $748,952.00.
Section 3. That the work is hereby accepted and approved.
Section 4. It is further ordered that a "Notice of Completion" be filed on behalf
of the City in the Office of the Orange County Recorder within ten
(10) days of the date of this resolution.
