HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC AG PKT 2009-08-10 #MADEN®A STAFF REPORT DATE: August 10, 2009 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council THRU: David Carmany, City Manager FROM: Vince Mastrosimone, Director of Public Works SUBJECT: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR ' CITYWIDE LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE CONTRACT SUMMARY OF REQUEST: The City Council is asked to approve the plans and specifications for the Citywide Landscape Maintenance Contract and authorize staff to solicit for bids. BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works strives to provide attractive and healthy landscaping for the benefit of its citizens in all of the City's facilities. This action consists of requesting proposals from qualified services to provide citywide mowing, aeration, tree maintenance etc. The landscape maintenance for the City has been contracted out since 2003. To meet these expectations, engineering staff prepared a full bid package to advertise and solicit for bids to provide citywide landscape maintenance. The City desires to retain a contractor having special skills and knowledge in the field of landscape maintenance of street medians and various City owned landscape areas including parks. The plans and specifications have been completed and approved by the City Engineer and staff is ready to solicit for bids. Plans and specifications are available for review in the City Engineer's office. It is the City anticipated award of contract will be made at the September 28, 2009 City Council Meeting. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The 09/10-10/11 Budget allocated $180,000 for FY 09/10 and $183,600 for FY 10/11. The contract will be for a period of thirty-six (36) months and the term of this contract may be extended for two additional one-year terms, at the option of Agenda Item M Page 2 the City. Rates may be adjusted annually up to 3%, based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the approval of the Director of Public Works. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended City Council approve the plans and specifications for the Citywide Landscape Maintenance Contract and authorize staff to solicit for bids.
