SUBJECT: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECS FOR ELECTRIC
AVENUE STORM DRAIN CONSTRUCTION PROJECT,
NO. SD1001
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The City Council is asked to approve the plans and specifications for Electric
Avenue Storm Drain Construction Project, No. SD1001 and authorize staff to
solicit for bids.
BACKGROUND:
Per the 1999 adopted Storm Drain Master Plan and the Ad-Hoc Street & Storm
Drain Committee, 2 areas were identified as high priority areas that require
immediate storm drain improvement. They are Electric and Candleberry Avenue.
Construction on the Candleberry Avenue Storm Drain Project is ongoing and is
expected to be complete in Fall of 2009.
Engineering staff prepared a full bid package to advertise and solicited for bids
for the Electric Avenue Storm Drain Improvements Project. The scope of work
includes storm drain and water utility construction consisting of the installation of
reinforced concrete pipes and boxes, catch basins with debris filters, manholes,
junction structures, ductile iron pipe and water valves.
The plans and specifications have been completed and approved by the City
Engineer and staff is ready to solicit for bids. The plans and specifications are
available for review in the City Engineer's office.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
In the 09/10 Budget, $4,591,000 is available for various storm drain projects.
Currently in construction is the Candleberry Avenue Strom Drain Project. Staff
estimates $1,200,000 is required to complete the project which leaves a
remaining balance of $3,391,000. The engineer's estimate for this Electric
Avenue Storm Drain Project is $2,750,000.

The estimated remaining balance after the Electric Avenue Project is $506,000.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended City Council approve the plans and specifications for Electric
Avenue Storm Drain Construction Project, CIP No. SD1001.
