TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
THRU: David Carmany, City Manager
FROM: Vince Mastrosimone, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: LIFEGUARD BUILDING TOWER IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The City Council is asked to allocate $17,000 for the repair of the Lifeguard
Building Tower.
BACKGROUND:
Staff has become aware of an urgent need to make repairs to the Lifeguard's
Building Tower third level deck. The existing stucco underneath the deck is map
cracking and breaking off. This area of concern could pose a potential safety
issue to pedestrians walking underneath the facility. Also, most of the deck
cladding and fascia have dry-rot/termite damage.
Recently, Public Works employees repaired a corner of the deck where the
stucco had broken off and replaced the fascia along the side of the deck. Other
structural repairs may be needed after the demo has been completed if the sub
floor has dry-rot. The estimated cost to repair the deck is $15,000. If other
structural repairs are needed $2,000 will be added to the project cost.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
A budget amendment will be created by the Finance Department. The project
account number is 001-052-44000. The funds will come from the 2 million dollars
the City Council previously designated for buildings. (Resolution No. 5908 -
Budget Amendment 10-03-01)
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended City Council allocates $17,000 for the repair of the Lifeguard
Building Tower.
