missile destroyer and, once commissioned, will be one of the most
powerful warships in the world; and
WHEREAS, USS Dewey is the third ship of the United States Navy to
be named for Admiral of the Navy George Dewey, a hero of the Battle
of Manila Bay during the Spanish - American war; and
WHEREAS, the motto of USS DEWEY - Dynamis Ex Cardias - The
Will to Fight from the Heart - Reminds us of Admiral Dewey's
unprecedented 59 -year career of Navy service in both war and peace,
exemplifying the Navy's highest values of honor and perseverance;
and
WHEREAS, USS DEWEY will be commissioned on Saturday, March
6, 2oio, at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach; and
WHEREAS, the commissioning of USS DEWEY will be the first U.S.
Navy commissioning ceremony to ever be held in Seal Beach, or
anywhere else in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of USS DEWEY proudly represent
the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment of the United
States Navy,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, THAT THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH does hereby salute and commend the officers and crew
of
USS DEWEY (DDG-10S)
and congratulate them on the upcoming commissioning of the Navy's
newest and most advanced destroyer.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby affix my signature and the seal of
