Crumby P.E., Director of Public Works SUBJECT: McGAUGH SWIMMING POOL RENOVATION PROJECT #BG1006 NOTICE OF COMPLETION SUMMARY OF REQUEST: Adopt Resolution No. 6031 to formally accept completion of the McGaugh Pool Renovation Project #BG1006; direct the City Clerk, to file a "Notice of Completion" with the Orange County Clerk- Recorder within ten (10) days from the date of acceptance; and direct the Finance Department to release retention in 35 days. BACKGROUND: At the April 12, 2010 City Council Meeting, Council awarded a contract to Commercial Aquatics Services to renovate the McGaugh Swimming Pool. The project consisted of replacing the sand filters, re- plumbing the piping in the mechanical pump room, servicing the heater, salt generation and miscellaneous pumps, rehabilitating the surge pit, upgrading non - compliant drains to meet Federal Mandate Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act and various repairs. During construction, several change orders occurred due to unforeseen items. These items could not be determined prior to draining of the pool and demolition. One example is the pool heater burners were cracked and refractory was damaged, three feet thick of concrete was encountered and chemical pump failure. Upon draining of the pool the City also requested security during construction and cleaning up the pump room. The project is now complete with the satisfaction of the Public Works and Community Services Departments. Agenda Item S Page 2 FINANCIAL IMPACT: At the April 12, 2010 City Council Meeting, Council authorized a contract with Commercial Aquatic Services for $99,320.70. The final construction cost with change orders totaled $118,248.47 and inspection cost were $1,000.00. The total cost for construction including change orders and inspection is $119,248.47. The City Council approved a budget for the project of $150,000. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the City Council adopt Resolution No. 6032 to formally accept completion of the McGaugh Pool Renovation Project #BG1006; direct the City Clerk, to file a "Notice of Completion" with the Orange County Clerk- Recorder within ten (10) days from the date of acceptance; and direct the Finance Department to release retention in 35 days.
