BACKGROUND On June 13, 2005, the City Council approved a resolution to amend the Position Classification Plan to include a revised job description for the Deputy City Clerk position. A recruitment to fill the current vacancy was conducted the same month. Unfortunately, the City only received six applicants for the position. Of the six, three individuals were identified as potential candidates. One of these three candidates subsequently withdrew from the process. A decision was made to place the process on hold due to the very limited number of potential candidates and conduct a salary survey for the position. Based on the results of the salary survey, the City Clerk and the City Manager recommend that salary range be upgraded in order to attract a better selection of applicants for the current vacant Deputy City Clerk position. The current placement on the City's Range Placement Table is 37E ($3,395- $4,127). Based on the salary survey, the recommended salary adjustment would place the position at 41C ($3,710 - $4,510). This is at the same placement level as an existing Public Works Assistant position and is appropriate for the position of Deputy City Clerk. FISCAL IMPACT: There will be a potential increase of $3,780 to $4,596 to the City Clerk's budget to accommodate the salary upgrade in the Deputy City Clerk's position.
