SUBJECT: MAIN STREET HOLIDAY PARADE UPDATE

BACKGROUND:
Each year, the Seal Beach community gathers and holds an annual holiday parade the
first Friday of December sponsored by the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce and the
City of Seal Beach. This year, the Chamber will be hosting the Annual Christmas Parade
on the evening of December 3, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
City staff is coordinating with Caltrans regarding the encroachment permit for closure of
the left and right hand turn pocket on Pacific Coast Highway and Main from 5:00 p.m. to
9:00 p.m. The parade begins at the Pier and proceeds down Main Street to Pacific Coast
Highway. In addition, the City's lighting contractor will be placing "shooting star" lights
along the Edison light poles along Main Street and additional lighting at the Pier as
approved by City Council in the past.

Public Works, Police Department and Chamber are working together to coordinate the
safety and clean -up issues associated with this event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds have been allocated within the operations budget and no additional fiscal impact is
associated with this action.
RECOMMENDATION:
Upon motion of the consent calendar, it is recommended that the City Council receive
and file this item.
