Interim Director of Public Works /City Engineer SUBJECT: COUNCIL CHAMBER CARPETING AND SEATING IMPROVEMENTS SUMMARY OF REQUESTS: The proposed City Council action will adopt Budget Amendment 05 -07 for the Council Chamber Carpeting and Seating Improvements. BACKGROUND: The City Hall Council Chamber was constructed in 1969 and minimal improvements have been done over the years. Currently, a need has been identified for improvements to the carpeting and seating. Several of the audience chairs are not working properly and have deteriorated cushions and fabric. The carpet seams have separated and also surpassed its useful life. Staff has researched options to improve the Chamber's seating and carpeting interior furnishings, which will improve the overall safety and aesthetics of the Chamber. The audience seats will be replaced with new seats and cushions similar to the current vintage style. The seats' upholstery color and new carpeting shall compliment the pattern and color of the carpet currently used in City Hall. The replacement of the seats and carpet will significantly improve the Chamber's furnishing appearance and comfort level. The Department has worked in conjunction with the City Clerk's office for these improvements. The project would most likely occur after the first meeting in November since there is no second meeting. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost is estimated to be $35,000 for the improvements to replace the seats and carpet flooring in the Council Chamber. Carpeting is expected to cost between $5,000 to $7,000 and the remainder for funds will be for seating. Budget amendment 05 -07 will increase general fund expenditure by $35,000. The estimated fiscal year ending undesignated general fund balance is $5,354,072. Approval of this budget amendment will decrease the estimated undesignated fund balance by $35,000 to $5,319,072. Agenda Item Q r RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council adopt Budget Amendment 05 -07 for the Council Chamber Carpeting and Seating Improvements.
