SUBJECT: WEBSITE RE- DESIGN STATUS
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Receive and file website redesign status report.
BACKGROUND:
At the January 10, 2011 City Council meeting, Councilmember Shanks requested
an update on the website re- design project. The remainder of this report outlines
the history of this project from inception to the present time.
This project was awarded to Quijote Corporation (dba Sensis) on September 14,
2009 for an amount not to exceed $85,410. An internal committee was formed
that represented each department. A series of planning meetings were held to
discuss department's ideas for improvements to each individual page and the
layout of the new website. As a result of the planning meetings, the decision was
made to change the City's website address to www.sealbeachca.gov.
Since the contract has been awarded in September 2009, there have been
several delays in this project. The following two reasons explain the delays:
• The project manager working for Sensis left employment of the company
and a new project manager was assigned.
• There was turnover of City personnel that was involved with the project
that requested changes to the original site map for the webpage.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The website re- design was budgeted in the 2009/10 budget in the amount of
$125,000. The contract was ultimately awarded in the amount of $85,410.
Approximately, $30,000 was spent during the 2009/10 budget leaving a

remainder of $55,410 to complete the project. A budget amendment to carry
over the remainder of this budget to the current year is requested in Item E.
(Budget Amendment No. 11- 08 -01)
ANALYSIS:
A meeting was conducted on January 31, 2011 with City staff and Sensis to
review and make final changes to, the website. Sensis is implementing those
changes and on during week of February 7, 2011, a meeting was held to review
those changes one last time before the website is launched. Staff has set
February 28, 2011 as the launch date.
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file status report for the website re- design and approve carry over of
funds from the 2009/10 budget.
