A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, HONORING
AND COMMENDING KENT WEISEND KURAN FOR
ACHIEVING THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
EAGLE AWARD
WHEREAS, the Eagle Award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve and is
accomplished by only two percent of all scouts; and
WHEREAS, the requirements for an Eagle Award are demanding, requiring
twenty -one merit badges, each denoting a special skill and a series of
proficiency levels in the categories of citizenship, personal
development and physical fitness; and
WHEREAS, Kent Kuran of Troop 642, Orange Frontier District, has achieved the
rank of Eagle Scout, under Troop Leader Erik Angstadt, and will be
honored at his Eagle Court of Honor recognition ceremony to be
held on May 21, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Kent began his scouting career in 1991 as a Cub Scout; and

WHEREAS, progressing through the Scout ranks, Kent earned 31 merit badges
and held several leadership positions, including Patrol Leader for two
terms, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and camped out for a total of
forty -six nights;
WHEREAS, for his Eagle project, Kent created a large landscaped garden in an
area adjacent to the Shark Exhibit at the Long Beach Aquarium of
the Pacific. The project involved filling in seven yards of dirt and
two yards of mulch behind a newly built decorative wall and planting
forty -four plants. The project consisted of a total of two hundred
man- hours, the work involving twenty-two fellow scouts and twelve
adults. The plants, dirt, and fill were donated by Iocal businesses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach, California, does hereby honor and commend
KENT WEISEND KURAN
for having achieved the Eagle Scout Award from Troop 642 of Seal Beach to be
presented at his Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony on the on the 21st day of May,
2004.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Seal
Beach, California, at a meeting thereof held on the Twenty- fourth day of May in
the Year Two Thousand Four.
