A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, HONORING
AND COMMENDING JONATHAN WILLIAM
SHELTON FOR ACHIEVING THE BOY SCOUTS OF
AMERICA EAGLE AWARD
WHEREAS, the Eagle Award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve and is
accomplished by only two percent of all scouts; and
WHEREAS, the requirements for an Eagle Award are demanding, requiring
twenty-one merit badges, each denoting a special skill and a series of
proficiency levels in the categories of citizenship, personal
development and physical fitness; and ,
WHEREAS, Jonathan Shelton of Troop 642, Orange Frontier District, has
achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and will be honored at his Eagle
Court of Honor recognition ceremony, under Troop Leader Eric
Angstadt to be held on May 21, 2004; and
WHEREAS, beginning his scouting career in 1992 as a Cub Scout, Jonathan
earned the Arrow of Light award, the highest rank a Cub Scout can
achieve; and
WHEREAS, progressing through the Scout ranks, Robert earned 26 merit badges.
Jonathan also held several leadership positions, including Patrol
Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader,
Librarian, and Chaplin's aide, backpacked sixty-two miles, camped
fifty-four nights, and participated in the Whitsett Sierra Backpack.
WHEREAS, Jonathan's Eagle Service Project involved building a new equipment
organization system for the Long Beach Police Department Reserve
Program. He designed and developed a plan to reconstruct two
equipment storage rooms which are used to store uniforms and
• equipment at the Long Beach Police Academy. Jonathan organized
and supervised scouts and adults from Troop 642 over a period of
four weekends in June 2003.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach, California, does hereby honor and commend
JONATHAN WILLIAM SHELTON
for having achieved the Eagle Scout Award from Troop 642 of Seal Beach to be
presented at his Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony on the on the 21st day of May,
2004.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Seal
Beach, California, at a meeting thereof held on the Twenty- fourth day of May in
the Year Two Thousand Four.
