Importuna, City Manager From: Sean Crumby, P.E., Director of Public Works SUBJECT: STUDY SESSION - FACILITY MASTER PLAN OVERVIEW: On June 14, 2010 the City Council awarded a professional services agreement with Griffin Structures to prepare a Building /Facility Condition Assessment. This Facility Master Plan will assess all of the facilities that the City owns or operates. Most of the City's facilities are more than 20 years (50+ in some cases). During that period the building codes have all changed. In addition numerous other laws have been enacted such as the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). One purpose of this report is to examine code deficiencies for these facilities and incorporate that into the future plan for the City. After reviewing both the condition and code the consultant will prepare a 20 year action plan (with rough cost estimates) or outlook for the future of the City Facilities. The consultant team has completed surveys for the City's facilities and is ready to generate the draft of the report. Prior to doing so, the City has several decisions that need to be made regarding code compliance. While the City's facilities were built to the codes that were applicable at the time of construction there are several choices about how to bring those facilities up to current codes. It is financially unfeasible to do them all at once. Some need to be done immediately, while others should be grouped with building renovation projects. In addition to the Uniform Building Code the City has essential facilities that fall under the Essential Facility Act. These facilities (City Police Station and Fire Station 44) have decisions that need to be made. The team of Staff and Consultants will break these into groupings and present questions with options for solutions. Detailed information will be presented at the City Council Study Session.
