obtaining federal disaster financial assistance through the State of California
Emergency Management Agency (CaIEMA) and the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA).
BACKGROUND:
As a result of the "Winter Storms 2010," President Obama declared a major
disaster for ten California counties including the County of Orange, beginning
December 16, 2010 through January 4, 2011. The City of Seal Beach is therefore
eligible to apply for federal disaster assistance through CaIEMA for damages
incurred during the disaster period.
The City of Seal Beach has applied for federal disaster assistance to cover the
following qualifying projects:
1. Building Repairs
2. Damage to flood control channel
3. Slope failure
4. Damage to parks and greenbelts
5. Debris removal
Preliminary repair cost estimates are $600,000. The final project sheets and
"City Agent" Resolution must be filed by the deadline of April 15 2011. Upon
adoption of a Resolution, future disaster reimbursements will be covered,
eliminating delays.
