Director of Public Works /City Engineer SUBJECT: COUNCIL APPROVAL: PUBLIC WORKS — STANDARD PLANS FOR WATER FACILITIES SUMMARY OF REQUEST: The proposed City Council action will adopt Council Resolution approving standard plans for water facilities and authorize the Director of Public Works /City Engineer to make changes as required by new regulations, for improvements to the water infrastructure and for the protection of public health and safety. BACKGROUND: Staff has completed and updated the standard plans also known as standard drawings involving water facilities which will be used as a minimum standards for the City's use in constructing and upgrading all water facilities in the City. In addition, the standard plans will be used by developers who may need to construct and upgrade water facilities and will be available to the public at the Public Works counter and on the City's website. The City's water and sewer consultant, AKM Consulting Engineers, assisted with the preparation of the standard plans and the Public Works Department has also reviewed plans and materials from other agencies to develop the attached water standard plans. The plans are also are consistent with current regulations from the State Department of Health Services. The Director of Public Works /City Engineer will also be authorized to make any changes to the standard plans as required by a new regulation such as the Department of Health Services or the American Water Works Associations, for improvements to the water infrastructure, and to make any changes as required to protect public health and safety. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. Agenda Item /7 '. FEBRUARY 2004 EDITION The following Standard Plans have been adopted by the City of Seal Beach as a uide for standardization of "Public Works" wthin the City and have been prepared for the guidance of engineers, contractors and developers who have an interest in the preparation of plans and construction of facilities and improvements un the jurisdiction of the City of Seal Beach. Standard plans are to be used in conjunction with the currently adopted edition of the Standard Specifications for Pub lc Works Construction, any adopted supplements or Department amendments as well as any adopted Design Criteria /Manuals and Master Plans. Conformance with thes standards will reduce design costs and the processing time needed to review and approve plans.
