HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC AG PKT 2004-01-26 #B RESOLUTION NUMBER 5 200 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, HONORING AND COMMENDING MICHAEL CARLTON KNIGHT FOR ACHIEVING THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA EAGLE AWARD WHEREAS,' the Eagle Award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve and is accomplished by only two percent of all scouts; and WHEREAS, the requirements for an Eagle Award are demanding, requiring twenty- one merit badges, each denoting a special skill and a series of proficiency levels in the categories of citizenship, personal development and physical fitness; and WHEREAS, Michael Knight of Troop 642, Orange Frontier District, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and will be honored at his Eagle Court of Honor recognition ceremony to be held on January 25, 2004; and WHEREAS, beginning his scouting career in October, 1994 as a Cub Scout, Michael earned the Religious Emblem as well as the Arrow of Light award, the highest rank a Cub Scout can achieve; and WHEREAS, progressing through the Scout ranks, Michael earned 35 merit badges and held several leadership positions, including Instructor, Camporee Staff, Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, earned the "80 Nights Camped" patch, was also Color Guard for the Opening Ceremony of the 2003 Paralyzed Veterans Games in Long Beach; and WHEREAS, for his Eagle Project Michael established a computer learning center for WeCare in Los Alamitos, to help the poor and homeless develop computer skills. Organizing and supervising work crews from Troop 642, Michael acquired, repaired and installed donated computers and software, he also remodeled and refurbished the room that housed the equipment, the project consisting of a total of two hundred twenty - four man - hours. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California, does hereby honor and commend MICHAEL CARL AR TON KNIGHT for having achieved the Eagle Scout Award from Troop 642 of Seal Beach to be presented at his Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony on the on the 25th day of January, 2004. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California, at a meeting thereof held on the Twenty-sixth day of January in the Year Two Thousand Four.
