Agenda Report
Date: December 8, 2003
To: Honorable Mayor and ity Council
From: John B. Bahorsk'
City Manager
Subject: Appointment to Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) I -405
Major Investment Study Working Group
SUMMARY OF REOUEST:
OCTA has requested two City Council Members be appointed to serve on an OCTA I-
405 Working Group. Staff is requesting City Council appoint two members to serve on
this committee.
BACKGROUND:
OCTA has embarked on a review of the transportation options for the I -405 that includes
expanding the number of lanes on the I -405. Since the I -405 impacts the Seal Beach
community as currently configured, it is likely that any expansion will result in greater
burdens on Seal Beach. Any plans to expand the I -405 should be closely monitored by
the City to ensure the residents are protected from the impacts of additional freeway
lanes.
OCTA is seeking public input early in the planning process by creating an elected
officials' working group and holding public meetings. In addition, there will be a City
Managers' working group and a City Engineers' technical committee involved in the I-
405 study.
The first elected officials meeting will be held at the OCTA Headquarters at 7:30 a.m. on
December 10, 2003. It is anticipated that there will be at least six meetings of the elected
officials' working group. The overall timeframe for the study is December 2003 to March
2005.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
