WHEREAS, the incidence of breast cancer in Orange County is higher than the State incidence; and WHEREAS, the 12 annual Orange County RACE FOR THE CURE will occur on September 28, 2003, raising • awareness of breast cancer, and raising funds for outreach and screening programs in Orange County; and WHEREAS, 75 percent of the race proceeds will be directed towards breast cancer outreach and screening in Orange County, the balance of proceeds will support nationwide breast cancer research; and WHEREAS, on the day of the race, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will honor those individuals in Orange County and across the nation who have survived breast cancer and who have advanced the goals of the Komen Foundation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Seal Beach does hereby proclaim September 28, 2003 as RACE FOR THE CURE DAY in Seal Beach and further commends the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for its efforts to enhance breast cancer awareness and prevention. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation RACE FOR THE CURE will take place at Fashion Island, Newport Beach. As I have in past years, I am writing to once again request the City's/County's support of this worthwhile endeavor. The City /County can support this effort in the following ways: 1) Adopt a Resolution in support of this year's RACE FOR THE CURE (sample text enclosed); 2) Send a representative to the VIP /Sponsor Reception scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at Turnip Rose in Newport Beach; 3) . Send a representative to the RACE FOR A CURE on September 28, 2003; 4) Designate a point of contact with whom I can coordinate the secure and display the City's/County's Resolution at the VIP /Sponsor Receipt and RACE. In past years, every city in Orange County and the County of Orange have adopted resolutions in support of the RACE FOR A CURE. Our goal again this year is a 100% response.
