AGENDA REPORT 4 015
DATE: August 25, 2003 r ,
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Coun •
b
FROM: John B. Bahorski, City Manage
SUBJECT: Amendment to Position Classification Plan /Salary
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
To amend the Position Classification Plan to include the job description of Marine Yearly
Lifeguard and to establish salaries for the Yearly Lifeguard and the existing Lifeguard
Captain position.
BACKGROUND
To complete the full -time Lifeguard job series and to enable management to fill positions
on an entry level basis with accompanying lower salary ranges should the opportunity
arise, the Marine Yearly Lifeguard position has now been created, submitted to the Civil
Service Board for review and is now before Council for consideration. In the recent past,
the City had a yearly lifeguard position that was vacant during the 1996/97
reclassification process and was not carried forward at that time. Restoring this position
now completes the full -time lifeguard series.
At their meeting of August 12, 2003, the Civil Service Board reviewed the job
description and recommended Council include the Marine Yearly Lifeguard position in
the Position Classification Plan.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact
RECOMMENDATION:
That Council approve the attached resolution adding the position of Marine Yearly
Lifeguard to the City's Position Classification Plan and establishes a salary range for that
position and for the Lifeguard Captain position.
