( 5 uN 1 r r ♦SS•, • rS WHEREAS, the Seal Beach Historical & Cultural Society was incorporated as a non - profit organization ' 4 November 30, 1971, and was dedicated to the ` a`y preservation of local historical documents, Yl memorabilia and buildings; and WHEREAS, as a focal point for the collection of artifacts, the Historical & Cultural Society restored and preserved a Pacific Electric Red Car from the Pacific Electric Line which began its operation in 1906 with Seal Beach as its most southerly destination; and WHEREAS the renovated Red Car was opened as a museum in 1980 on the original Pacific Electric Right -of -Way at Main Street and Electric Avenue and was awarded historical site 110 by the Orange County Board of Supervisors and placed on the Point of Historical Interest List by the State of California; and WHEREAS, as evidenced by their accomplishments, the goals of the Seal Beach Historical & Cultural Society have been and are continuing to be met and • are acknowledged and appreciated by the City Council and the citizens of • Seal Beach as the benefactors of their generosity. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, John Larson, Mayor of the City of Seal Beach do hereby recognize the Seal Beach Historical & Cultural Society for preserving and maintaining ourcultural heritage through the volunteer efforts of this community organization over the last thirty-two years. On behalf of the City Council, the month of November, 2003 is proclaimed as • Seal Beach Historical & Cultural Society Month And the citizens are urged to join in the celebration of the Historical Society's 32nd anniversary. • IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Seal Beach to be affixed, this Twelfth Day of May, in the Year Two Thousand - Three.
